ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Totem Pointe is pleased and proud to present "REAL LIVE American Music",
a retrospective of the music of the Celebrated Renaissance Band. All of
the vintage tracks on this CD have been digitally re-mastered, most from
tapes of a CRB concert at Boston University in 1974.
The Celebrated Renaissance Band (CRB) and its affiliates, Finkelstein
and Katz and the Raggedy Grass String Band toured widely during the
1960's and 1970's. Their work represents a significant era in the
American Folk Process. A time when artists working with traditional
music began to experiment with electric instruments and pop music
techniques. Groups like the CRB, The Grateful Dead and the Nitty Gritty
Dirt Band, to name but a few, explored and expanded the boundaries of
American tradition-based music and music making. Although the CRB's
venture into electric instrumentation lasted only a few years, the
unique music they made, which they dubbed "Psychedelic Old Time" music,
gained them a national following.
In 1969, the CRB single "Vibration 2.2" topped at least one regional pop
charts. The composition is considered by some to be a classic example of
folk-psychedelic music of the 1960's. The vinyl version is a
collectible.
"Vibration 2.2" was reissued in 2000 by Arf-Arf Records on "Buzz Buzz
Buzzzzzz Vol. 1". This compilation CD, "dedicated to the fine art of the
psychedelic instrumental" includes works by the Royal Guardsmen and the
Challengers and others.
This album, 'REAL LIVE American Music" captures the excitement of the
Celebrated Renaissance Band's live performances, with their lively
tradition-based repertoire and cross-generational appeal, and also
presents their "Psychedelic Old Time" masterpiece, "Vibration 2.2"
(Track 14).
We invite you to enjoy the unique and durable music of the Celebrated
Renaissance Band.
